Corn and rice are Wei Xinyuan and Lu Deqing’s primary crop. The rice is precious because it feeds them; the corn is precious because is feeds their pig. After picking the corn, Lu will carry 30-kilogram bags of field corn on her slight back, up the steep mountainside and down the road to her home.
