Heshun is famed for its clothes washing pavilions, a local innovation not seen elsewhere in China. As the story goes, since many of the men left the town to make their fortune, they had these pavilions built to protect their wives and daughters from the high-altitude sun while washing clothes or vegetable in the Sanhe River that creates and elegant arc defining the edge of the old town.
