Ladies light incense to the goddess Mazu at Wenxing Temple.

Some of the many practices common to folk religion, Chinese Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism are: burning incense, consulting fortune tellers, ancestor worship, belief in light and dark forces at work in the universe, and a predilection for balance and harmony. These shared beliefs and practices undergird the pluralism of Chinese religion and form a communal identity of Chinese traditional society.
